Thursday August 4th

Thursday August 4th

Up at 7.
1 Very Angry Teenager...
Showered and checked out by 8. Went to pick up our laundry but she wasn't open til 830 so we grabbed two giant plates of breakfast at Boss Hogs next door. Yum.
Picked up laundry and on the road!

A bit of winding to get onto the M8 but finally got rolling at the posted speed limit of 120 km/hr.
The slow lane is the left lane here but now and again there's a slow poke so you pull into the middle or even right lane to get around them.  From out of nowhere an Audi or BMW comes up behind you at 150 km/hr and you're in panic mode to get out of their way.  There's hardly a second to relax as cars are going so fast.
After an hour we pulled into Kilkenny. We found a place to park and tracked down brother Patrick and his family - walking down Patrick Street! We were so excited to see them and the boys to see their cousin Lucas.  We walked together and went over to Kilkenny Castle for a tour for an hour. We let the boys run around in the park for a bit while we sat and had a coffee and caught up some more.
We wandered around for awhile and ended up at a restaurant for a bit before heading out to Cork.
The back road highway for the first 30 minutes was crazy. Tiny goat path road with no shoulder with a speed limit of 100km/hr and a car on your behind the whole time. Rock ledges on either side covered in foliage as you flew down the road.  I loved it - especially when meeting another car or worse - a large transport truck. Quite nerve wracking but exhilarating being on the edge at the same time.
We stopped in a town called Cashel to see an old castle in ruins on a large hill overlooking the valley for miles and miles.  We joined a tour and found out all the history of the place.  It was incredibly beautiful and we spent a good hour there taking photos.
We got on the main hiway and flew into the city only to have our GPS not work and having to navigate the busy city streets at rush hour.  We wound or way through the city and discovered our university apartments. We checked in and got the keys.
We had an entire floor of 5 bedrooms with double beds for 100 Euro a night the first night but 175 the second as we were too slow on booking a few months back.
Krista and I ran to the local grocery store and bought some breakfast supplies and a bottle of wine to bring to Gaeils parents place as they were hosting a bbq for 50 guests.
We caught a cab over there as we didn't want to drink and drive and were actually instructed to do so.
We arrived and meet Gaeil/David and all their family members as well as people from all over the world.
We had a wonderful time catching up with old friends and making some new ones.
We left around midnight and for everyone home safely.
A few of us wanted to partake in some of the local night life and see the sights so we ventured out for a couple establishments that had love music playing

and got home a wee bit late. What an eventful day!!
