Saturday August 6th
Of course I wake up at 5. Why not? I wouldn't want to miss the important things that happen at 5am. Sheesh.
I ironed all my clothes for the wedding and had some breakfast. I did some Internetting and people began to rumble around and shower. We had a check out time of 10 am but for it extended to 1130. We ended up leaving by 11 and headed downtown to a restaurant called Liberty. It was ranked as the #3 choice for breakfast in all of Cork. The dilemma of course was finding parking.
After driving around for 10 minutes we finally located a spot and loved up on the street. We got in 10 minutes layer and had to get 2 tables, one for Mia and Krista and all the boys sat at the other.
An incredible breakfast of cinnamon and French toast as well as poached eggs and eggs benedict. We even had freshly squeezed apple juice for the first time ever and it was superb.
As we departed the restaurant it was lightly raining so out came the umbrellas. We walked to our car, got our bearings and struck off for church. We wanted to make sure we were early.
We drove 10 minutes north of the city and found a gas station and filled up. We drove another 10 minutes and pulled into the church parking lot.
Sat august 6 pt 2
What seemed odd was that there were no other vehicles there... oh oh
Double checked the address of the church on the invitation and sure enough I picked the wrong church as suggested by Google maps. Apparently there are about 8 different St. Joseph churches in the area.
We drive back to the city and found the church quite easily. Irony would run rampant as numerous people went to one of the wrong St Joseph churches including my brother Patrick as well as the sister of the groom with a flower girl and they arrived 15 minutes late.
Everyone there was dressed in their finest attire and the Tysowski family all looked top notch in tuxedos and gowns.
Upstairs in the choir loft was a keyboardist singing as the bridal party walked down the aisle. When Gaeil and her dad came down lastly, jaws were open and amazed at her stunning dress and beauty. She wore her hair up and had a beautiful diamond tiara on. Wow.
The ceremony went off without a hitch. It was part of a mostly full Roman Catholic mass. The soloist sang one religious lullaby after another as heads turned to see who this incredible artist was. I've never heard a better singer at a wedding in my entire life. She was incredible.
Vows were made and a thunderous ovation followed at the presentation of the newly married couple.
As they departed the church, everyone enjoyed brothers Mark and Greg nodding winking and smiling at the audience. What a pair!
The couple had a receiving line at the back of the church and the church emptied out from the back.
After Hugh and congratulating therm both, we scurried to our car and headed to Kinsale as we wanted to get parking and checked in before the masses arrived. We navigated our way there through the mist fog and rain and arrived at the coastal town in good time. We framed one of the last two remaining spots to park and checked in.
Our room was one of the finest rooms we've ever stayed in other than the Banff Springs hotel back home. A king sized bed with 2 singles and a bathroom full of wall to ceiling marble tile. Just wow!
We got changed and headed downstairs to the reception where we were treated to appetizers of shrimp and crab croquets, chicken and vegetable skewers and proseco/champagne.
We met many new people from across Canada who had come mostly from Toronto but also Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Minot, Rochester and NYC!
We also could order antigen we wanted from the bar so we grabbed a couple drinks and a bell rang signaling us to leave this entire floor and move to the next floor and the formal dining room.
We sat right next to the head table with James/Anu, Patrick/Mia, Kelsey/Erin and Cam/Matthew.
The menu on the table was sublime as we were given choices of Lamb/Sea bass and several appetizers.
Davids dad Ed said a few words and then grace.
Shortly we received a salad, followed by soup, then our mains and then dessert. Total sit down fully served meal. Like royalty. Impressive!
The kids table on the other side of the room had their own choices as well and they ate heartily too!
As dessert arrived, that was Gregs cue to begin his emceeing job.
He humorously introduced himself, the head table and their families as long as very humorous anecdotes on each. Greg focused heavily on the fact that as there was only two groomsmen, he was the best man and Mark was the Worst Man as he milked this all through the program by roasting Mark with memorable stories. It was quite hilarious and Mark was great about it.
Mark made a very touching and moving speech about how Gaeil has touched the lives of their entire family in welcoming her to the Tysowskis. Mark thanked her family for all their work and hosting a phenomenal bbq on Thursday evening as well.
More laughter as Gaeils brother welcomed David and the Tysowskis. Both sets of parents spoke thanking everyone also. Gaeil made a very lovely speech thanking numerous people and brought tears to everyone's eyes speaking about her brothers, mum and dad. David thanked all of us out of towners and introduced them all by name.
Sat Aug 6 pt3
As speeches came to a close, Greg took one more opportunity to roast Mark and then told everyone to party to a thunderous applause and cheer as he left the stage ( as if he were the next candidate for the Presidency of the United States! ) He really did a super job and brought the house down.
Everyone mingled for a bit and the band started shortly. 6 musicians including 2 horn players and 3 female singers looking like a cross between the Descendents and the Shagbots from Austin Powers! They delivered hit after hit from the 70s and 80s with strong vocals and harmonies that kept the dance floor full all night.
The kids wandered in and out of the dance and back to a few hotel rooms entertaining themselves. Midnight lunch came out with sandwiches, chichen strips and sausages. Krista and i lasted til around 1 and rounded up our kids and called it a night. We would find out tomorrow that the T boys shut down the place rolling into bed at 430 am. A great party and wonderful day!!
